Measuring emotion? Really?

May 31, 2012

Today, I just came across a software called Affectiva which came right out of the MIT Media Lab. This amazing piece of software measures people’s emotion real-time. It basically tells how did you feel at a certain time by analyzing your face! How does it work? Well, you have to see it for yourself.

Click here and then click on Affdex Your Vote on the page. You will be prompted to watch a video and then in the end, the video recorded from your webcam will be analyzed to give detailed information about your face and emotions during that time. Now, without any doubt I’m sure that advertisers and salespeople jumped onto this software; however, what I really wonder is, what would be the other applications of measuring emotion? Imagine, you are wearing a Google Glass which has this software loaded in it! How would that be if you could know how people are feeling as you are interacting with them real time? That sure would be the end of an era in communications! Everybody, especially the people in business would need to practice poker face!
